About the “Right to Repair” Bill

If you have been keeping up with auto repair news, you know that the “Right to Repair” bill is advancing through the proper channels on its way to becoming a law. This bill is going to a great thing for auto owners. Here are some of the major components of the “Right to Repair” bill so you can be informed.

• The bill would require the various automakers to provide the same information, tools and service to other auto maintenance shops that they receive themselves.
• The FTC would be given even more oversight and enforcement powers over the various auto repair shops in the United States.
• The “Right to Repair” bill gives consumers and vehicle owners a better choice for choosing where they can take their vehicles for repairs. It also helps them decides which parts are best to use in their vehicles as far as maintenance goes.
• The bill would not threaten to take or copy the intellectual property of any auto manufacturers.
• The bill does not threaten or change the warranty agreement that a dealer has with the vehicle manufacturers.
• Automakers would not be forced to divulge any trade secrets or any manufacturing secrets under the new bill.
• The bill would promote vehicle safety because other auto repair shops would have access to computers and other tools that would help diagnose problems on vehicles.

This bipartisan bill is getting quite a bit of support in Congress at this time and independent auto repair shops are hoping it passes because it will mean they can do the same types of repairs that dealerships do which will increase their business tremendously.
