Preparing Your Used Car for Winter Weather

With the winter months upon us, it’s important to make sure your used cars are prepared for the frigid weather. With a little bit of preventative maintenance, you can help prevent your vehicle from breaking down in the ice and slow and help it make it through the season and until the springtime.

Check the Fluids
Make sure the antifreeze is the correct mixture of half water and half antifreeze. If the antifreeze is too concentrated, it can freeze when the outside temperature drops below a certain point. Also, make sure the other fluids are full so you do not have to fill them up during the cold weather. The windshield wiper fluid is especially important if you live in a region of the country where it snows a lot.

Check the Tires
Make sure the treads on your tires are in good condition so you can have traction in the rain, snow and slippery roads. If your tires do not have decent tread, you risk slipping and sliding through the winter season and putting yourself and others at risk.

Change the Wipers
Even if your wipers work well, it’s a good idea to change them before the snow and the ice hit. Wipers are relatively inexpensive and new ones will clear your windshield better so you can see the road ahead clearer.
