used carsMost drivers will agree that texting while driving is a dangerous habit. Some may even agree that talking on your cell phone when behind the wheel is, at best, a distraction. But a recent study shows that eating certain foods while you’re trying to drive your used cars is just as dangerous (if not more so) than texting or talking.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration conducted the study which found 80 percent of all car accidents are the result of a distracted driver. “Distractions like eating can become a problem for drivers who can’t react quickly to a sharp curve,” according to a part of the study.

Guess what the worst offender is. Here’s a hint: Millions of drivers probably have this in their cup holder during their morning commute.

If you guessed coffee, you’re right. “Even with a travel lid, hot coffee can find its way out of the opening when you hit a bump,” said the study. The NHTSA study also mentioned soup, tacos, hamburgers, ribs, wings, chili dogs, jelly doughnuts and chocolate as dangerous foods to have behind the wheel of your used cars. Soup I can understand. Ribs and wings…okay…I get that. But the others seem to be stretching it a bit. What do you think?
