With uncertainty in the economic arena right now, people are looking for was to save money anywhere they can. Investing in a quality used car is one ideal way of saving money. That’s because today’s used car owner is taking better care of their investment than they were just a couple years ago. Here are some numbers that show car owners are maintaining their used cars these days and extending the life of their motors.
• More than half of car owners have said they are performing regular maintenance on their used cars themselves rather than paying the high prices of a professional to do it.
• Of that 50 percent, nearly 90 percent of those car owners said they did not do the maintenance themselves previously.
• More than 20 percent of car owners have ignored the regular service their car needs in order to save money.
• Sixty-one percent of car owners are topping off their own antifreeze these days.
• About 54 percent are changing their own oil filters.
• More than 30 percent are changing their own spark plugs.
“People are looking for ways to save money right now and taking routine vehicle maintenance into their own hands is a great place to start,” explained Jim Brown, the Director of Communications and Consumer Study at Honeywell Consumer Products Group.
