Are you planning a trip to the Southwest this summer? If so, you are in for a treat with all of the desert landscape and beautiful sceneries. But desert driving can wreak havoc on your new or used cars if you do not take certain precautions. Here are some tips and suggestions to help you drive through the desert safely so you can make it to the other side.
• Check the tire pressure before entering the desert region. The extreme heat can change your tire pressure so make sure there is not too much air pressure before you begin driving through the desert.
• Make sure the radiator has no leaks. Get a tune up and have your cooling system pressure tested to ensure it is working to its optimum performance. This is very important in temperatures that can exceed 120 degrees.
• Keep your eye on the temperature gauge. If the engine starts getting too hot, pull over for awhile and check under the hood for any problems. Make sure you have an extra gallon of coolant on hand in case you run low.
• Plan your route before you go. If there is one place you do not want to get lost, it’s the desert. Make sure you have your route planned before you go and bring your maps or your GPS device.
The desert is a beautiful place to drive through in your new or used cars. You can make sure you have good memories of it by taking some precautions before you leave and while you are driving through it.
