There are several advantages to obtaining a vehicle history report before buying, but they are also not foolproof. Today we are discussing a couple advantages that CarFax reports offer for buyers of used cars.

1.	A CarFax report will tell you if there have been any recalls or safety issues with the vehicle. Most used car dealers have these problems checked out before they resell them to consumers.

2.	A CarFax report lets you know if the car has a clean title. Without one of these reports, you are still protected in case this occurs. However, it’s just easier knowing about it ahead of time to save yourself legal headaches in the future.

3.	A CarFax report calculates the cost of ownership of the vehicle you are buying. This is good because it tells you exactly how much you should have in your budget for your next car. You may even find out you can purchase a more expensive used car than you thought!

Like we said in the beginning, CarFax reports have both advantages and disadvantages. Come back on Thursday and find out some disadvantages to these history reports on used cars.

If you’re like a lot of consumers these days, you’re looking for a great bargain on a used car. New cars are just impractical and they lose too much of their value as soon as you drive them off the lot. But used cars, however, hold their value better and they are less expensive to purchase. Some buyers are intimidated by the process of finding bargains on quality used cars, though. Here are three tips for finding bargains on used cars.

•	Look at the mileage. Does the mileage seem to match the age of the car? Or did the previous owner run up hundreds of thousands of miles in a short time? The fewer miles there are on the used car, the better deal it is.
•	Look at the driver’s seat. The wear and tear on the driver’s seat is often a good indication of how often the driver was in the car.
•	Get a vehicle history report. One of the best ways to know a used car’s history is to get a vehicle history report from somewhere like CarFax.com. They don’t cost much and they will certainly save you money in the long run.

Many people shy away from buying a used car. Unfortunately, they are missing out on great deals and prices just because they are afraid of getting “other people’s problems.” But buying a used car doesn’t have to be like this. Here are two great five tips you can use to get a great price on a used car while still getting a quality vehicle.

1.	Know the car’s value. When you visit your local dealer, find some used cars that interest you. Then go home and do some research on those makes and models. Find out how much those cars are going for at other dealers and in private sales. If the price for the same car at your local dealer isn’t close to the average price, find out why it is more expensive or much cheaper.
2.	Get a history report. One of the best things you can do for peace of mind when buying a used car is to get a vehicle history report. Websites like CarFax.com specialize in this. The report will tell you how many owners the car has had and if it’s been in any accidents. It will also give you a history of its maintenance. With a vehicle history report, you know more about what you are getting into when buying a particular used car. Some dealers may even offer this as a service.

Buying a used car can be a great experience. Just utilize these two tips and you’ll feel better before and after your purchase.
